February - Heart Health and Managing Chronic Stress

February is heart health month. According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women. Did you know that each year 1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke, and that more women than men die every year from heart disease and stroke?

The CDC recommends taking charge of your health and starting at least one of the following heart-healthy behaviors that can help reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke:

  • schedule a visit with your doctor to talk about heart health

  • add exercise to your daily routine

  • make healthy eating choices

  • take steps to quit smoking

  • take medication as prescribed

The CDC may not include chronic stress management among their recommendations, but scientific research has linked chronic stress to many diseases, including high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.
